BIOFIT Conference
In January 2022, the BIOFIT project will hold its final conference. The event will take place online as series of conference sessions spread over three days.
Project results will be presented in four Industry Sessions, each of them addressing a specific industry sector, namely first-generation biofuels, pulp and paper, fossil refineries, fossil
firing power and CHP. In each of these sessions, an overview of the respective industry sector will be provided, followed by presentations on specific case studies and sectoral
recommendations. After each industry session, interaction of the audience with BIOFIT sector experts and associations will be enabled by a moderated discussion / Q&A session. The timing is as follows:
• Fossil firing power and CHP: 18 January 2022 (13:00 – 15:00 CET)
• Refineries: 18 January 2022 (15:15 – 17:00 CET)
• Pulp and paper: 19 January 2022 (09:00 – 11:00 CET)
• First-generation biofuels: 19 January 2022 (11:15 – 13:00 CET)
The event will be rounded off with a Policy Breakfast “Retrofit-for-55” on January 20 (08:30 – 10:30 CET). This conference session is specifically dedicated to national and EU-level
policymakers. It will present drivers and barriers as well as policy recommendations from the BIOFIT project in a nutshell, and provide an interactive platform for discussion among
participants.
Registration and provisional agenda
The BIOFIT project supports and initiates bioenergy retrofitting opportunities in five industry sectors. The bioenergy retrofits studied in the BIOFIT project are technical measures applied to existing production plants that support bioenergy utilization as an alternative to fossil energy. The retrofit measures can result in either using additional biomass as an input to the production plant or producing additional output from biomass at the production plant. Investigated bioenergy retrofits therefore include bioethanol, biodiesel, bio-kerosene, intermediate bioenergy carriers and other advanced biofuels as well as renewable fuels and biomass-based heat & power generation.
