Six European rural regions and a broader Community of Practice will work on development and upscaling of biobased solutions in the SCALE-UP bioeconomy project. As an example, during the project’s kick off meeting in Sevilla, a visit was paid to one of the world’s largest olive research institutes “Instituto de la Grasa”.
Olive residues after oil pressing contain nutrients, proteins and other bioactive components, which can be extracted. Similarly, in North Sweden, useful components can be obtained from tree needles, in Upper Austria major efforts are made to utilise food waste. Apologies, don’t call it waste anymore! As BTG we can relate to this, as we work a lot on development of biobased applications of fractions from pyrolysis oil. Bringing these biobased solutions to the market is a key challenge and the main driver of the SCALE-UP project. We will keep you updated! For more information, please contact Martijn Vis.
